Can't login in to Ubuntu from PuTTy - SOLVED

When using PuTTy to connect to Ubuntu Server, the user name and password is not being accepted.  SSH was installed from start-up.

Use an editor like nano to edit the configuration file.

$nano /etc/ssh/ssh_config

From this file look for the following and use the # to comment out these lines if they exist.

PermitRootLogin no
PermitRootLogin without-password

Then add the following line and save the configuration file.

PermitRootLogin yes

Reboot the server

Now try again and you should be able to connect.
